Privacy Policy

This policy explains what TireCheck does with your information.

Camera and photos

TireCheck uses your camera only when you choose to take or pick a photo, or tap “Use live camera.” Camera access is optional; you can type your tire details instead. The live camera preview stays on your device and is not recorded. When you take a photo of a tire sidewall, tread, door-jamb sticker, or vehicle, that one image is sent through TireCheck's server function (hosted on Netlify) to Google's Gemini service so it can read the text or recognize the vehicle. TireCheck does not store your photos; they are used only to return a result to you. Google processes the photo under its own terms and privacy policy, and while TireCheck uses Gemini's free tier, Google may use submitted content to improve its products.

Location

Location is optional and requested only when you tap “Use my location.” Your approximate coordinates are sent once to a public OpenStreetMap Overpass server to find nearby tire shops. TireCheck does not save, track, or share your location, and does not use it in the background. You can search by place name instead.

Vehicle lookups

When you look up a make, model, or VIN, the request goes to the U.S. government's NHTSA vPIC database.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Netlify, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operation.

Children

TireCheck is not directed to children under 13.

Accounts and vehicle details

For now, your account, vehicle, and tire details are stored only on your own device (browser local storage). Passwords are stored as a hash, not in plain text. Clearing your browser data removes them. A hosted account service may be added later, and this policy will be updated first.

Retailer links

When you open a retailer link, that retailer's own privacy policy applies. Affiliate links may let the retailer know the visit came from TireCheck.

No sale of data

TireCheck does not sell your personal information.
